ABS-CBN Is Most-Watched TV Network In Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, continued its domination nationwide, including 12 key regional areas with huge TV viewing population, hitting as high as 73% in terms of audience share.

The strong performance of ABS-CBN in these areas help drive ABS-CBN’s leadership in national TV ratings among urban and rural homes nationwide. ABS-CBN’s average audience share reached 43% nationwide on total day viewership in August, or 12 points higher than rival GMA’s 31%, according to Kantar Media.

Looking at the different areas nationwide, Kantar Media TV diaries data (July 29 to August 4) show ABS-CBN registered its highest audience share of 73% in Legaspi with a majority of local residents tuning in to its shows and enjoyed an overwhelming 60-point lead over GMA’s 13%. Similarly, ABS-CBN also obtained a 72% audience share in Iloilo, higher by 58 points than GMA’s 14%

“ABS-CBN maintained its dominance in these regions because of good content, improved signal, and local programming. Viewers appreciate our local productions which include local newscasts, morning programs, game shows, and local public service programs apart from our top-caliber TV offerings,” said ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG) head Louis Benedict Bennett.

GMA-7 balak talunin ang ABS-CBN sa Rural Areas

INCREASING OUR REACH.

Ani Mr. Duavit, “We are moving towards the rural areas and increasing our reach in Northern Mindanao and portions of the Visayas.

AGB TV Ratings: GMA-7 no.1 nationwide last April 2012

GMA-7 continued to win in nationwide ratings for the month of April, based on data from broadcast industry’s recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

GMA improved its total day household audience share this April relative to March across all areas. Audience share of its closest rival ABS-CBN, meanwhile, followed an opposite trend.

Based on full April ratings data (April 1 to 21 data and April 22 to 30 overnight data), GMA posted an average total day household audience share of 35.5 points in National Urban Television AudienceMeasurement (NUTAM), ahead of ABS-CBN’s 29.4 points by 6.1 points and of TV5’s 15 points by 20.5 points.

Using an estimate of five viewers per household, GMA’s margins translate to more than one million viewers over ABS-CBN and almost 3.6 million viewers over TV5 nationwide.

In Total Urban Luzon, which comprises 77 percent of total urban television households nationwide, GMA recorded double-digit margins over its competitors for the said period. GMA registered 39.2 household audience share points, 13.8 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 25.4 points and 24.8 points ahead of TV5’s 14.4.

Converted to viewers, GMA had an over 1.8 million and over 3.3 million viewer advantage over ABS-CBN and TV5, respectively, in the said area.

In its bailiwick Mega Manila, which makes up 59 percent of total urban television households nationwide, GMA hit 40.3 audience share points, posting double-digit point-wide margins over ABS-CBN’s 24.1 points and TV5’s 15.1 points.

GMA’s margins translate to over 1.7 million and over 2.7 million viewers over ABS-CBN and TV5, respectively.

GMA-7 magtitipid ngayong 2012

GMA-7 plans to reduce programming costs and trim capital expenditure from nearly P896 million in 2011 to P650 million for 2012.

Two new stations are planned in the Ilocos and Bicol regions. The rest of the funds will be to upgrade towards high definition programming.

Despite posting lower profits, rival ABS-CBN has set a higher budget for expansion this year to diversify its revenue stream and ensure future growth.

Last week, company officials reported that profits fell nearly a quarter in 2011, from a net of P3 billion in 2010 to P2.4 billion in 2011, following an industry-wide drop in earnings from massive spending cuts by big advertisers.

A one-time gain from the sale of a stake in Sky Cable Corp., coupled with the company’s more diversified revenue stream helped save ABS-CBN from a worse decline, officials said.

Ad Revenues ng ABS-CBN pinakamataas Last March!

The outlook for 2012, however, remains uncertain after an unusually erratic first three months of the year.
“In January ad minutes went down by double digits. In February we saw some signs of recovery, but last March we had an all-time high for that month,” ABS-CBN chief financial officer Ron Valdueza told reporters. “We hope to sustain this momentum the rest of the year.”

Valdueza said the company might benefit from the unofficial start of the midterm campaign season by the fourth quarter of this year, “but it probably wouldn’t be that much.”

He said the group’s capital expenditure would increase by at least 19 percent this year to P5 billion, with the bulk to be invested in the Internet and cable television business of its subsidiary, SkyCable.

Diversifying.

To diversify its revenue stream, ABS-CBN last year launched a total of 16 films, six of which grossed more than P100 million each to reach “blockbuster” status by Philippine standards. “Praybeyt Benjamin” grossed P342 million, making it the country’s biggest-selling movie.

This year the government plans to order television industry players to start broadcasting on digital frequencies and replace the existing inefficient and unreliable analog technology.

Gabby Lopez III to GMA-7: ABS-CBN is the Real Number One

ABS-CBN has magic. This was the remark made by its chief executive and chairman Gabby Lopez III during a symposium in Cebu.

This is related to the talk about what station is number one in the country.

He shared that he’s not shocked by recent transfers made by their former artists such as Sharon Cuneta, Aga Muhlach, Willie Revillame and Derek Ramsay. Rather, he’s thankful to TV5 for accepting them to their fold.

He said even if some of their stars have transferred, there are still a lot of them left and there are more to come.

He has a strong conviction on the network’s capability on making people famous. He knows that even stars which seem to have no chance of making it are experiencing the magic.

He also made mention on the billion-peso worth of contracts by TV5’s Manny V. Pangilinan but until now, those artists have no project to talk about. He also chided GMA7 for its claim of being number one. Mr. Lopez explained that whichever station has the higher advertising rates is considered the real number one.

GMA Network Keeps Stronghold of Nationwide TV Ratings Lead in February

GMA Network Keeps Stronghold of Nationwide TV Ratings Lead in February.
Broadcast giant GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) maintained its lead in nationwide TV ratings over competitors this February, according to broadcast industry's more trusted ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

Based on February 1 to 29 household data (February 26 to 29 based on overnight ratings), GMA posted an average of 36.3 household share points, ahead of ABS-CBN's 30.4 points by
5.9 points; and TV5's 14.6 by 21.7 points.

Using an average of 5 viewers per television household, these numbers translate to around 1.1 million more viewers tuned in to GMA over ABS-CBN and almost 4 million over TV5 from all over the country.

ABS-CBN Wins Primetime Household Viewing in February 2012

ABS-CBN continues its winning streak in the primetime TV race as it dominated households nationwide in February with an average audience share of 41.4% or almost a ten-point lead from GMA’s 31.6%, according to industry-trusted multinational market research group Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN further widened the lead in primetime in the latter part of February with the sustained strength in viewership of “Walang Hanggan” which has been hitting over 30% with an average of 31.6% for the period Feb 20-29, elevating ABS-CBN’s weekday primetime shares to a staggering 45% and bringing GMA’s share down to 29.6% in the same time period.

The primetime block on television (6 PM to 12 MN) is important for TV networks because it is the time most Filipinos are watching television and advertisers put most of their TV ad placements to reach more viewers.

ABS-CBN for progress and GMA-7 ibebenta, ayon sa hula

"Channel 2 for progress."

Napagpasyahan ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na mag-interbyu ng mga psychic in time for the celebration of Chinese New Year.

"With due respect to all networks, eto lang yung napi-feel ko, no bias at nothing personal—Channel 2 will progress.

DOJ ordered to file libel charges against ABS-CBN

The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently ordered the City Prosecutor of Quezon City to file libel charges against ABS-CBN for malicious imputations aired over its broadcast platforms in relation to the alleged “stolen” footage by broadcast giant GMA Network.

The case is in relation to the alleged unauthorized airing of Iraqi captive Angelo Dela Cruz’s arrival footage taken at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport over GMA’s newscast in July 2004.

ABS-CBN claimed over its newscasts that GMA “stole” and aired its live feed, which was actually taken from the Reuters Television Service (Reuters), where GMA had a video subscription contract.

Among those implicated in the crime of libel are ABS-CBN executives and talents, namely, Erwin Tulfo, Beth Frondoso, Lynda Jumilla, Ma. Progena Estonilo Reyes, Annie Eugenio, Dondi Garcia, Eugenio Lopez III, Luis Alejandro, Jose Ramon Olives, Jesus Maderazo, Luisita Cruz-Valdez, Jose Magsaysay, Jr., and Alfonso Marquez.

In her four-page resolution promulgated on December 14, 2011, DOJ Secretary Leila De Lima said, “The malicious imputation was evident from the use of the words ‘magnanakaw ng aming eksklusibong kuha,’ ‘pamimirata ng footage,’ ‘pagnanakaw ay isang malaking krimen,’ and ‘pagnanakaw ng video’ uttered by [ABS-CBN respondents].” These were aimed at casting discredit or dishonor to GMA on live nationwide broadcast.

"ABS-CBN accurately stated in its earlier press statement that its case vs AGB Nielsen is still pending in court.

"Let us reiterate that GMA is not a party to the case and should refrain from commenting on it."

(read related story here)

Narito ang Statement ng GMA Network:
"GMA Network is rightfully interested in making sure that only accurate information is disseminated to the public based on available court records.
"This is precisely the reason behind GMA-7's letter - wherein the Network clarified that ABS-CBN's case against AGB Nielsen has already been dismissed - which was sent to various media organizations last week.
"Said letter was based on the following court records: the Certificate of Finality issued by Atty. Maila Doroteo Santos, Branch Clerk of the Quezon City RTC on January 5, 2010; and the Orders dated October 27, 2010 and March 21, 2011 from Quezon City RTC Presiding Judge Charito Gonzales, which stated that the dismissal of ABS-CBN's case against AGB Nielsen is final and executory and that the subsequent Petition for Relief from Judgment and Motion for Reconsideration filed by ABS-CBN have been dismissed."

ABS-CBN Releases Official Statement regarding GMA Network's Media Advisory

ABS-CBN respond to GMA-7′s accusation of not telling the truth about its civil case against AGB Nielsen.

Last Wednesday, December 28, GMA-7′s corporate communications consultant Butch Racquel has sent a media advisory to Starmometer saying a part of ABS-CBN’s press releases about TV ratings is not true:

“ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.”

ABS-CBN to GMA-7: Why is GMA making a comment when it is not party to this case?

PEP asked ABS-CBN to respond to the GMA-7 statement.

As reply, its corporate communications head, Bong Osorio, sent this brief text message to PEP: "Why is GMA making a comment when it is not party to this case?"

BACKGROUND. It may be recalled that the issue between ABS-CBN and AGB Nielsen started in 2007, when ABS-CBN accused GMA-7 of ratings fraud in the areas of Bacolod and Iloilo.

AGB was the ratings service provider to both stations at the time.

Former employees of GMA-7's regional group, interviewed by ABS-CBN's TV Patrol, claimed that Regional GMA (RGMA) president Miguel "Mike" Enriquez was involved in the alleged ratings fraud.

Enriquez—who, with Mel Tiangco, is also the primetime news anchor of GMA-7— vehemently denied the accusations made by the former RGMA employees.

GMA Network claims ABS-CBN is not telling the truth

The Kapuso network claims the Kapamilya network is not telling the truth.

This is the gist of GMA-7's public statement about the civil case filed by ABS-CBN against ratings service provider AGB Nielsen.

The statement, which came from Kapuso network corporate communications consultant Butch Racquel, was sent in the form of a press release to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) this afternoon, December 28.

The press release singles out a statement that it says the Kapamilya network often includes in its press releases about ratings (itals provided):

"ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court."

The ABS-CBN statement, says GMA-7, "strongly aims to discredit AGB as a ratings service provider in the media industry."
