Mo Twister, together with his co-DJs Tin Gamboa and Mia Bayuga on Magic 89.9, received a 2-week suspension from their radio programfor popularizing a “cruel joke” on Charice Pempengco.
DJ Mo Twister, together with his co-DJs Tin Gamboa and Mia Bayuga, initiated the hashtag #charicepempengcosextape on Twitter this morning on the radio program “Good Times with Mo” and encouraged their listeners to make it a trending topic on the microblogging site.
True enough, the “cruel joke” topped the trending box on Twitter during the airing of their radio show.
On the other hand, Charice Pempengco–who will celebrate her birthday tomorrow–expressed her disgust on her Twitter account (@officialcharice), and warned Mo Twister and company to get a good lawyer as she intends to file a libel case against them.
Meanwhile, the management of Magic 89.9 immediately issued anofficial statement regarding the “cruel joke” saying that they “do not condone” what happened this morning and that the three DJs involved in the incident shall be suspended from boardwork for two weeks without pay as consequence of their actions.
Eventually, Mo Twister posted on his Twitter account (@djmotwister) his intention to air public apology to the international singing sensation and to her fans on his radio program tomorrow, saying:
“I want to take the opportunity to apologize to Charice for a stupid & cruel joke on our show today. We attempted to be funny at her.We apologize Charice for our stupid behavior and immature attempt to generate laughs. You have worked so very hard, not just for yourself and your family, but to put our country in a positive light, to promote immense Filipino talent, and you have done that successfully. We are proud of you and we are embarrassed because we failed to support that. I wish I could make it up to you and rest assured-that we will exhaust every avenue to do so. We are sorry. You’ve been nothing but supportive of our show in the past. We failed to show our appreciation today.”
Twister also appealed to their listeners to stop using the hashtag:
For those we tried to entertain today with our dumb attempt at being funny, I ask you no longer contribute to that made up hashtag. It holds no truth to it. @suzy899, @Mia899 and I would like to apologize publicly tomorrow on our radio show to Charice and her fans.”
Tin Gamboa, a.k.a. DJ Suzy, also tweeted her apology today:
“i would like to apologize to charice who has shown me NOTHING but kindness, & to u the listeners who have always been so loving & supportive“i am taking responsibility for everything that was said, but please know that there was ZERO malicious intent. ZERO. i am sincerely sorry.”
