MANILA, Philippines—Lopez-led ABS-CBN Corp. stole the lead in Metro Manila television ratings from rival GMA Network Inc. in the first two weeks of October, the latest survey from research firm Kantar Media showed.
In a statement, ABS-CBN said, “More Filipinos get their nightly dose of entertainment fare and news from the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, ABS-CBN Corp.”
The company said it obtained an average individual TV rating of 42.1 percent as against GMA’s 29 percent on primetime TV, when viewing levels peak and where advertisers make most of their ad placements.
Based on Kantar Media data for individual national TV ratings from October 1 to 19, ABS-CBN led all TV networks in Metro Manila during primetime with an average TV rating of 35.8 percent versus GMA’s 31.6 percent.
ABS-CBN said its new primetime series “Budoy,” which premiered October 17, made a strong impact as it debuted in second place with an individual rating of 17.3 points nationwide, besting GMA’s highest rating primetime show “Amaya” (11.1 points).
This allowed ABS-CBN to earn an average nationwide audience share of 35.1 percent based on total day individual ratings for the period of October 1 to 19, tying with GMA.
Kantar Media has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN and government-run National Broadcasting Network. Other Kantar customers include ABS-CBN unit Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann and Wellmade Manufacturing Corp.
They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.
ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failure to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.
