ABS-CBN's Coverage of Impeachment Trial Wins National Ratings

ABS-CBN interrupted its regular programming to give way to the live coverage of the historic impeachment trial via “Ang Hatol: Chief Justice Corona,” which most Filipinos watched yesterday when the senator-judges finally delivered their verdicts as it hit a national TV rating of 18.5% against GMA (11.8%), GMA News TV (3.1%), and TV5 (2.9%), based on data from Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN’s coverage also ruled the ratings race last Monday with a national TV rating of 10.3% versus TV5 (2.8%) and GMA News TV(1.7%), and last Friday (May 25) with a national TV rating of 11.5% against TV5 (3.1%) and GMA News TV (3.0%). 

ABS-CBN’s officialhashtag #CJonTrial became the top trending topic in the Philippines as Filipinos tweeted their thoughts while actively watching the trial.

Ayon sa third-party tabulator na boxofficemojo, naka 25.51 Million Pesos ang pelikula ng dalawa sa unang linggo nito sa sinehan.
Samantala, ang isa pang pelikulang pinyo na 'Mommy Returns' starring Gabby Concepcion at Ruffa Gutierres ay kumita ng 27.77 Million Pesos sa loob ng dalawang linggo.

Claudine Barretto at Raymart, guilty ba kaya hindi sumipot sa unang hearing?

HINDI sinipot ng mag-asawang Raymart Santiago at Claudine Barreto ang unang preliminary investigation na itinakda ng Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office kaninang alas-10:30 ng umaga.

Renato Corona is Guilty! 20 Senators voted for Conviction

Renato Corona, the country’s Chief Justice, is charged guilty of violating Article 2. This is the verdict of the Senate Impeachment Court on Tuesday, May 29, after 5 months of trial.

The House of Representatives filed an impeachment complaintagainst Chief Justice Renato Corona last December 12, 2011 for violating Article 2 of the Constitution which states:

“RESPONDENT COMMITTED CULPABLE VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION AND/OR BETRAYED THE PUBLIC TRUST WHEN HE FAILED TO DISCLOSE TO THE PUBLIC HIS STATEMENT OF ASSETS, LIABILITIES, AND NET WORTH AS REQUIRED UNDER SEC. 17, ART. XI OF THE 1987CONSTITUTION.”

The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court on Tuesday, May 29, declared their votes after grueling five-month trial.

To convict Corona, two-thirds of the entire senate or sixteen votes are needed. If eight senators would say otherwise, the Chief Justice will be automatically acquitted.

MVP to sell Rockwell stake to Lopezes

BUSINESSMAN MANUEL V. Pangilinan’s camp will be selling its stake in Rockwell Land Corp. to the Lopezes to allow it to focus on power investments, which could include a future factory for electric vehicles.

“We are selling it to the Lopezes,” Mr. Pangilinan told reporters on Friday after a stockholders meeting, referring to a 23.1% stake in the property developer, which is largely held by the Lopez-led First Philippine Holdings Corp.

“We will disclose the [price after the transaction] is finished,” he added.

The Pangilinan group controls 23.1% in the property developer, through Beacon Electric Asset Holdings, Inc., the controlling shareholder of Meralco.

This, as Mr. Pangilinan said that his group might set up a unit intended for its investments in e-vehicles.

“First Pacific Co. Ltd. will have to establish separate vehicle for the e-vehicle investments,” he said, clarifying that the locally based Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) will not be the investment vehicle.

“If we [Filipino] people don’t look at it as an opportunity, it would be a pity for us, because we will give a lot of livelihood to China, Korea and Taiwan, which were heavily represented in the summit [on Thursday],” he said during the stockholders’ meeting, referring to the Electric Vehicle Summit.

GOZON: GMA-7 will remain no.1 this 2012!

GMA Network Inc.’s chair and chief executive officer Felipe M. Gozon on Wednesday said the network will again top the “ratings game” this year after conquering the top spot last year.

“Twenty-eleven will be remembered as the year when GMA Channel 7 first became number one in nationwide TV ratings… As a result, I am proud to report that we have remained on top of the ratings game,” Gozon said during the company’s annual stockholder’s meeting in Quezon City.

Ito ang inanunsyo kaninang umaga ng American Idol producer na si Nigel Lythgoe ukol sa magiging tema ng face off ng Filipino-Mexican-American singer at ng Amerikanong si Phillips.

ABS-CBN is the worst performer in profit making in the Philippines

ABS-CBN emerges as the worst performer based on earnings metrics among 38 firms in the Philippines, tracked by at least three analysts, Thomson Reuters StarMine data shows.

The broadcaster fares badly with an Analyst Revision Score (ARM) of 1 and an Earnings Quality (EQ) score of 6.

Its low EQ score suggests poor earning sustainability and analysts have cut EPS estimates on the firm for the year ending 2012 by 16.9 percent over the past week.

DZMM’s ‘Kabayan’ Makes It As Only PHL Finalist at New York Festivals

DZMM’s public affairs program “Kabayan” anchored by multi-awarded broadcast journalist ‘Kabayan’ Noli de Castro was named as a finalist at the prestigious 2012 New York Festivals (NYF) World’s Best Radio Programs.

“Kabayan” was distinguished in the Best Public Affairs Programcategory and the lone Philippine radio program to succeed in the international competition.

According to Nanette Baler-Quong, the program’s executive producer, the NYF recognized the episodes where Kabayan extended aid to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) caught in the war in Syria last January.

GOZON: I will sell GMA-7 for P100 billion!

Ito ang sinabi ni GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon sa panayam sa kanya ni Mary Ann Ll. Reyes ng Philippine Star na nailathala kahapon, Mayo 17.

Ani Atty. Gozon, “I will sell [GMA Network] for P100 billion, and this includes the 23 percent held by the public.

“I will sign with my eyes closed.”

GOZON: at the right price we might be persuaded to sell GMA-7

MANILA, Philippines [UPDATED] - Amid talks of a possible deal between the 2nd and 3rd largest media groups in the country, an official of GMA Network Corp. said all major shareholder groups said have agreed to sell GMA-7 if the right price is offered. 

He also stressed GMA-7 is an attractive buy and that other groups, aside from rival TV5 chair Manuel V. Pangilingan, have approached to acquire them before. 

"We [are on] the same [page]. There is no disagreement among the major stockholders. We have one position," said GMA Chairman Felipe Gozon at the sidelines of the network's annual stockholder's meeting on May 16.

"Even if we are not for sale, at the right price we might be persuaded to sell," he said.

GMA-7 posts P388 Million net income for the 1st quarter of 2012

For the future, Gozon said, "We will maintain our lead, increase our international presence and exploit additional business opportunities."

In the first 3 months of the 2012, the net income of GMA-7 was down over 27% to P388 million from P534 million in the same period in 2011.

The network cited lower revenues from advertising, subscription and other sources. These main revenue streams decreased by 4% quarter-on-quarter.

Industry leader and rival ABS-CBN Corp. reported a paltry 1% net income increase in the first quarter.

Ayon kay Lana Linaban na Secretary-General ng Gabriela, humingi raw ng tulong sa kanila si Claudine kaya tutulungan nila ito.

Hindi raw sila makikialam sa kaso para alamin pa kung sino sa kanila ang nagsasabi ng totoo. Humingi lang daw ng tulong si Claudine kaya tutulungan nila ito kung kinakailangan nito ng suporta ng naturang samahan.
