ABS-CBN and TV5 are endorsing Japanese Digital TV Standard; GMA Network wants DVBT-2 from Europe

MANILA, Philippines – Major industry players that conducted formal tests on the digital terrestrial TV platform of Japan are happy with the results and await the government’s final go-ahead for its use soon, in preparation for next year’s shift from analog to digital broadcasting.

Residents of Barangay Calulut in Mexico, Pampanga tried out the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting or ISDB-T of Japan, and reported satisfactory results.

“The signal is good, the colors bright,” said Maricel Fernando, who for years had suffered bad TV signal.

“My signal does not bounce,” reported another resident whose TV set at home was attached to the test digibox, Manolo Gonzales.

In the test, they were able to access seven channels well, and said it was obvious that this was much better than the analog signal they were used to.

At least 29 homes in Barangay Calulut were part of the test site of several major broadcasting companies preparing to make the migration, under government regulatory supervision, from analog to digital transmission.

The government is to make a final choice soon between Japan’s ISDB-T platform and the DVBT-2 from Europe.

NTC fines GMA-7 Network 600 Million pesos for permit filing lapses

MANILA, Philippines – Regulators have imposed a fine of P685,300 on GMA Network Inc. for neglecting to renew on time its permit to operate in eight cities and one province.

The network is protesting the imposition of fines, however, saying the period for imposing them had prescribed; and describing the sums leveled as exorbitant.

Per records of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the station’s certificate of public necessity in the cities of Cagayan de Oro , Ozamiz, Cotabato, Pagadian, Roxas and Puerto Princesa and in the Municipality of Kalibo, Aklan had expired on December 17, 1999 but GMA only renewed it over eight years later on May 27, 2008.

Despite the lapse, the NTC granted GMA’s petition for renewal last August 31, allowing GMA to continue operating in those provinces up to but not beyond December 31, 2014. While allowing the renewal, the regulators ordered GMA to pay a fine of P308,000.

The NTC issued similar orders renewing GMA’s permit to operate in Masbate and Dipolog City,  but again imposed a hefty fine of P377,000.

GMA’s CPN lapsed on January 10, 2000, but it filed its application for renewal two years later on September 6, 2002. For this,  regulators imposed a fine of P96,600.

Wala sanang magalit sa amin pero ngayon lang uli nakatikim ng hit album ang GMA Records at ito ay ang original soundtrack album ng Tween Academy: Class of 2012. Nag-No. 1 sa OPM at over-all chart ng Odyssey ang album ng mga bagets mula Aug. 29-Sept. 4 kaya masaya ang lahat.

Maganda rin tiyak ang sales ng Christmas album ng mga bagets na malapit nang lumabas. Ire-release na rin ang DVD copy ng Tween Academy: Class of 2012.

SCOOP: Mariel Rodriguez resigned! She will be one of the host ng bagong noontime show ng TV5!

Mariel Rodriguez will not anymore be seen in any of the shows of ABS-CBN. Dahil nag-resigned na daw diumano ang asawa ni Robin Padilla sa ABS-CBN bilang host ng Happy Yipee Yehey. Matatandaang kahapon, saturday noon, ay hindi nagpakita si Mariel Rodriguez sa noontime show na HYY.

Ayon pa sa ulat ng PEP, lilipat na nga raw si Mariel Rodriguez sa TV5 ngunit hindi siya magiging co-host ng "Wiltime Bigtime" bagkus ay isa siya sa magiging host ng nilulutong noontime show ng TV5 na ang magiging main host nga daw ay si Edu Manzano.

Isa sa mga dahilan raw diumano kaya napag-desisyunan ni Mariel na lumipat ng bakuran dahil hindi raw sa kanya binigay ng ABS-CBN ang slot para maging host ng bagong season ng Pinoy Big Brother.

The delayed telecast of Miss Universe 2011 Pageant in ABS-CBN register a high ratings both in Kantar National Ratings and AGB People and Household Mega Manila Ratings. It bested all its rival shows from TV5 and GMA-7.

Not only that, panalo rin ang Miss Universe sa Ads Counts...dahil sa 1st gap pa lang nito ay lagpas 10 ads na agad ang ads loads nito which is unusual para sa isang palabas sa umaga.

ABS-CBN remains to be the no.1 TV Network in the Philippines

More households in the Philippines tune in to ABS-CBN to be entertained and informed especially when TV levels peak at its highest during primetime from 6 PM to 12 midnight.

Data from Kantar Media showed that ABS-CBN remains to be the number one TV network with a national audience share of 43 percent in August primetime or a whopping 13-point lead over GMA’s 30 percent.

Advertisers, which invest majority of their TV ad spending on primetime, look at the TV ratings and audience shares of programs and TV networks to place their TV commercials in order to reach more households as frequently and efficiently as possible.

ABS-CBN programs secured 13 out of the top 15 most-watched programs in the country, making it the top choice for advertisers to put their advertising budget.

The multi-awarded and longest running drama anthology in Asia “MMK” (33.7%) hosted by ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Conciotook the top spot followed by weekday top-rater “100 Days to Heaven” (31%) and the recently concluded top-caliber action-drama series “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (30.9%).

“TV Patrol” also ruled all newscasts in the country and secured the sixth spot with an average national rating of 28.6% as compared to its rival “24 Oras” with only 19.5%.
Newly premiered programs “My Binondo Girl” (28%), “Junior Masterchef Pinoy Edition” (27.8%), and “Maria La Del Barrio” (22.6%) also fared well on its pilot airings and instantly rose to ranks of the monthly top 15.

Nagsimula na last sunday ang salpukan ng mga Teen Shows ng magkalabang network na ABS-CBN at GMA-7. Sa pagitan ng "Growing Up' at Tween Hearts' sino nga kaya ang nagwagi?

Nanalo ang ABS-CBN Teen Show na 'Growing Up' laban sa 'Tween Hearts sa Kantar Media National Ratings nang makakuha ito ng 12.3% laban sa 7.5% lang ng huli.

Samantala, Ayon naman sa AGB Mega Manila Ratings nanalo ang 'Tween Hearts' ng GMA-7 laban sa 'Growing Up' nang makakuha ito ng 10.5% laban sa 8.8% lang ng ABS-CBN teen show.

Denise Laurel Admits that she gave birth to a baby boy

After keeping mum on her rumored pregnancy last year, actress Denise Laurel finally admitted that she has already given birth to her first son.

In an exclusive interview with Boy Abunda on “The Buzz” on Sunday, Laurel said the first thing that came to her mind after finding out that she was pregnant was her family.

“The moment I found out, the first thing that came into my mind was my family. Iyon parati ang una kong iniisip eh. I come from a very strict family, very conservative… I was just thinking how they would react although I never ever thought, not even once, that this was a mistake,” she said.

Laurel said her family got disappointed when she told them about the baby but they still stood by her through everything.
