ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, continued its domination nationwide, including 12 key regional areas with huge TV viewing population, hitting as high as 73% in terms of audience share.
The strong performance of ABS-CBN in these areas help drive ABS-CBN’s leadership in national TV ratings among urban and rural homes nationwide. ABS-CBN’s average audience share reached 43% nationwide on total day viewership in August, or 12 points higher than rival GMA’s 31%, according to Kantar Media.
Looking at the different areas nationwide, Kantar Media TV diaries data (July 29 to August 4) show ABS-CBN registered its highest audience share of 73% in Legaspi with a majority of local residents tuning in to its shows and enjoyed an overwhelming 60-point lead over GMA’s 13%. Similarly, ABS-CBN also obtained a 72% audience share in Iloilo, higher by 58 points than GMA’s 14%
“ABS-CBN maintained its dominance in these regions because of good content, improved signal, and local programming. Viewers appreciate our local productions which include local newscasts, morning programs, game shows, and local public service programs apart from our top-caliber TV offerings,” said ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG) head Louis Benedict Bennett.
In Luzon, ABS-CBN won in the provinces of Batangas and Naga with a majority of local residents watching its programs. ABS-CBN led in Batangas with 69% audience share vs GMA’s 17% and topped all TV stations in Naga with a 69% audience share vs. GMA’s 13%.
ABS-CBN registered impressive ratings in its newest station in Palawan, earning a 67% audience share or higher by 50 points than GMA’s 17%.
In Dagupan, ABS-CBN registered a hefty growth audience share to 45% from 31% in the previous month, while rival GMA suffered an 11-point drop to 33% from 44% month-on-month. Likewise in Baguio, ABS-CBN posted an eight point increase to 51% from 43%, while GMA’s audience share shrunk by six points to 21% from 27% registered in the previous month.
In the Visayas, ABS-CBN conquered Cebu with 63% audience share vs GMA’s 18% and won the hearts of Negrenses with a 62% audience share in Bacolod vs GMA’s 10%.
The same winning trend is also seen in Mindanao where ABS-CBN dominated Davao with a 68% audience share vs TV5′s 12% and GMA’s 9%. ABS-CBN remained as the market leader in Cagayan de Oro where its audience share hit 58% vs TV5′s 20% and GMA’s 12%. ABS-CBN reigned in General Santos with an audience share of 51% vs. TV5′s 28% and GMA’s 12%.
While ABS-CBN clearly topped all 12 key areas, its rivals GMA only managed to come in distant second in eight areas while TV5 placed second in four areas.
ABS-CBN recently announced the building of ten new relay stations and the enhancement of the TV and radio coverage of its existing regional stations.
“ABS-CBN will pioneer the building of new stations in areas such as Oriental Mindoro, Davao Oriental, Antique, and Negros Occidental. These new relay stations will also receive locally produced shows, something the rival networks don’t have,” said Bennett.
