ABS-CBN's Cinema One emerged as the most watched cable channel last month

FILIPINO MOVIE channel Cinema One emerged as the most watched cable offering last month, beating out foreign content counterparts which mostly made up the Top 10 list, data from market research firm Kantar Media showed.

“Cinema One, is preferred by most cable audience because of its language,” Gabriel V. Buluran, Kantar Media’s country manager said in a telephone interview yesterday.

Cinema One garnered 14.1% audience last month, Kantar Media said.

It was followed by Cartoon Network with a 12.4% share, HBO (11.4%), Pinoy Box Office (9.2%); Star Movies (8.3%), Disney Channel (7.8%), Nickelodeon (3.6%), Disney Junior (2.4%), Cinemax (2.2.%) and Balls (1.6%).
Cinema One, the cable movie arm of ABS-CBN Corp. Rival Pinoy Box Office is the cable channel of Viva Entertainment, Inc.

The June survey covered 126 cable channels, majority of which were foreign networks.

The data further showed that the boxing bout between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley on June 10 emerged as the most watched show for the month, with a 59.1% audience share in the Philippines. The domination of movie and cartoon channels in the list, meanwhile, reflects the audience’s desire for shows that are not offered by free television, the Mr. Buluran added.

“So given a choice, [the audience] watch these type of programs on cable,” Mr. Buluran said further. -- Cliff Harvey C. Venzon
