MANILA, Philippines - Could a content partnership between Globe Telecom and ABS-CBN Corp. be in the offing?
Globe Telecom Inc. president Ernest Cu said ABS-CBN could be a possible partner for its plan to offer content for its mobile customers.
Asked if ABS-CBN could be an investment for its plan to offer "new age content", Cu said: "All content owners are."
The investment could also be in the form of a partnership, he said.
The telco's plan comes amid rival Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co.'s intention to buy GMA Network Inc.
Asked if Globe would be making a similar move, Cu replied, "absolutely." However, no concrete plans have been made.
"We continue to explore but nothing concrete. We are open to it. Just like any other telco entity, we need to cover and make sure we have content relevant to the public," he said.
"What is attractive for us would be what the consuming public will use and they use mobile phones to browse a five-minute clip rather than watch a one-hour show using a handset."
Cu noted that "mobile surf snacking" is best viewed on mobile phones and tablets, which have smaller screens.
"We are into mobile kind of geared content. We are interested in that sort of thing. The new age content may be relevant versus the traditional Filipino content you see out there today. That's not our business. We are not here for the big screen," he added.
much better ang partnership ng ABS_CBN sa GLOBE ddahil sa mas magandang serbisyo nito.... hindi kagaya ng PLDT (even SMARTBRO) sa daming nagrereklamo na mabagal ang internet at serbisyo nito..... go go go kapamilya tied up with Globe.....
